I frogged the green blanket-y thing from that last post, and guess what? I was winding balls for an hour and a half. My wrists were so tired. The good news is, I ended up with about 7 skeins, or 1260 yards! The bad news is, I can’t make any garments out of it because it reportedly pills alot, and I know it sheds (my nose was itching the whole time I was winding). I only thought of that after that hour and a half of winding, of course. So I’ve got all this:
And I don’t know what to do with it. I started knitting a hat (possibly for my dad), thinking that at least it wouldn’t pill too badly since hats aren’t washed as often as, say, sweaters. Maybe that will turn out. But that will leave at least 6 skeins unused.
One other thing I’m going to use this for is practicing a difficult [for me] knitting pattern. Check out what I’m doing here, if you’re a knitter, and please give me some advice! I’m struggling with new techniques and stitches!
So… what else to do with the green yarn is now my question. Any suggestions for how to use mass quantities of pill-y, shed-y, 100% cotton? I’m trying to match the yarn to a project here and I’m struggling. I don’t think it would work so well for a shawl, which was my original intention, because it would shed a lot on whatever shirt I was wearing underneath it. *sigh* I just don’t know. This is certainly a crocheting conundrum.
I like to knit ponchos and capelets since they don’t get alot of wear and tear. That doesn’t address the shedding issue though, unless you use a secondary (non shedding) yarn around the shoulders and then incorporate it into some kind of colorwork for the body of the piece.
Yeah that would be the only way I’d try to do it. I don’t have enough of another yarn, though, at least not right now.
Have you tried any amigurumi? That might work because you don’t tend to wash toys too often
Actually yes, I have lots! I have a small stash of Red Heart yarn solely for amigurumi. But a toy is a really good idea… hmm…
